The big buzz this week is the economy, everyone is talking about the stimulus checks arriving “early” (4 days), the feds cutting rates, and the huge increase in gas prices.

Its all talk, the normal American family is struggling more this week than last and I am sure it will continue to get worse. The news of the stimulus arriving early has Americans anxious to get some extra money in their pockets probably to just pay their bills. On Monday Boiled Over had a large amount of traffic from people searching when they would get their check.

Gas is now at $3.75 a gallon and groceries went up again this week. We feel like we are working only to eat and put gas in the car to get to work. “Working for Nothing”

I found this from an article on Ajc.com

McCain and Democratic hopeful Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton have said they favor suspending the federal excise tax on gasoline through the summer driving season.

Clinton’s Democratic rival, Sen. Barack Obama, has said suspending the tax – 18.4 cents per gallon – would save consumers barely enough to buy half a tank of gas, belittling the idea as a band-aid approach to the larger issue of energy security.

This may only be a band-aid approach, but every little bit counts at this point. We all know that something must be done about our dependence on oil, but realistically it will take many years to enact any energy plan. We need help NOW, TODAY! If all you have is a band-aid, as long as its free I’ll take it!

As the American people take two steps back a day, the politicians are playing the blame game and getting nothing done.

A headline this week that about made me fall out of my chair:

Bush Calls on Congress to Help the American People

Yeah ok weren’t you the jerk that got us in this mess in the first place? Eight years of his administration running this country and people are loosing their homes, can’t pay for a tank of gas and now there’s talk of a possible food crisis……oh boy we’re in for the long haul.

So for a little humor and to put a smile on everyone’s face I am posting an email I received from a friend. I wish I knew who wrote it so I could give them the proper credit…Enjoy!
Dear Internal Revenue Service:

Enclosed you will find my 2008 tax return showing that I owe $3,407.00 in taxes.

Please note the attached article from the USA Today newspaper; dated 12 November, wherein you will see the Pentagon (Department of Defense) is paying $171.50 per hammer and NASA has paid $600.00 per toilet seat.

I am enclosing four (4) toilet seats (valued @ $2,400) and six (6) hammers valued @ $1,029), which I secured at Home Depot, bringing my total remittance to $3,429.00.

Please apply the overpayment of $22.00 to the “Presidential Election Fund,” as noted on my return.

You can do this inexpensively by sending them one 1.5″ Phillips Head screw (see aforementioned article from USA Today newspaper detailing how H.U.D. pays $22.00 each for 1.5″ Phillips Head Screws).

One screw is enclosed for your convenience.

It has been a pleasure to pay my tax bill this year, and I look forward to paying it again next year.

Sincerely,

A Satisfied Taxpayer

As I did my daily errands today I about ran into the car in front of me while checking the gas price. We all knew it was coming the news stations have been talking that $5 a gallon mark, but come on over 25 cents in one day! Are you kidding me? Yeah I was the idiot that did not get gas yesterday because I thought I could stretch it one more day and look what it got me. Yesterday $3.43 today $3.69 and that’s the cheap gas! Having a husband that commutes over a 100 miles a day makes my stomach turn every time that price rises.

So I wanted to vent about what everyone is venting about the damn price of gas. Yeah it’s the same gas the stations had in the tanks yesterday, but today we are just lining the pockets of the oil companies. Even my daughter called complaining saying it isn’t even worth driving 15 miles to her job to work 3 hours for minimum wage…..I have to say for once I see her point.

Then my sister sent me a ton of hilarious pictures in an email entitled gas humor. I am posting them just to give everyone a smile. Although every time you fill up remember that the oil companies made record breaking profits last quarter and we just keep getting more broke.

We all have had that day at the pump where you car is on low fuel and your holding out for a price drop. Then you’re hit with it first thing in the morning that HUGE 10 cents a gallon increase. For one, it is still the same gas that was in the HUGE barrels the day before and two Exxon made a 4 Billion dollar profit last quarter and last your PAYCHECK did not increase. Chad commutes at least 180 miles daily the cost of our monthly gas is as much as our house payment and his last raise was less than fifty cents an hour. How will everyone survive, beside the big business and lets not forget our wonderful president who owns a lot of stock in the oil companies.

Everyone is boiled over about his one, so lets here it!
