The School Bully

The elementary school in our district has been educating the children about bullying. My gripe is today when my son came home from high school, he complained about one of the kids taunting and bullying him. Well if the district is so focused on stopping the bullying why do they not have a system in place for these kids to report it. Yes, you can go to the office or tell an adult, but both kids are brought into the room together to discuss “their problems”. In a normal adult world this may work, but with teenagers or younger children it may have the reverse effect, like more bullying from not just the one student but others claiming “they are a baby”. I know because we have been down this road before. The schools should put some type of anonymous system in place for students to report bullying without giving their name. When the same student keeps getting complaints this should send a red flag to the staff that this particular student needs to be watched or disciplined. I understand that the schools are already under staffed, but you are talking about the safety of our children. Cases like Columbine happen when kids just can’t take it anymore, yes the schools have taken “safety” precautions, but they have not helped the underlying problem….Bullying.

Our Black Friday

This is when it all starts for us “Black Friday” means the day after Thanksgiving that we so much enjoy with our family, we never go shopping, who could afford that? Our Thanksgiving week and the week after is very trying for us. My husband works for the union and he does not get holiday pay, therefore his paycheck next week will be very minimal. We barley scrape by in these two weeks and with Christmas approaching it is very stressful.

My boiling point is how you could work for the union, born in America, for America, to protect American workers and not pay your people for holidays. This is a time of year you should enjoy and not be stressed out about a lost day at work, that you did not have a choice over. When you are in the construction field you are already worrying about the “rain” days let alone a four day weekend with no pay. Although the union has been good to us in the past, it gets worse every year. Like “Big Business” they are always looking out for themselves and not the workers. It is not like the old days where you felt secure with your union. These days you make $840.00 for your pension and they take $800.00 you get $40.00. Who can retire on that especially with no paid Holidays?

Due to the recent years in technology advancement, people have been subject to instant gratification. Who doesn’t love being able to instantly connect to someone they love or pay your bills online. But where does it draw the line. We now have cars that will drive you to your destination or cell phones that alert you when you miss the daily lotto numbers. Do you think with all this technology that “Big Brother” is not watching us closely. We lose more and more of our privacy everyday with this “new” advancement, who really needs a HD TV on their refrigerator? In a nation where the majority of people are overweight why can’t we say enough already and put that “technological advancement” towards something that means something like Cancer Research.

We all know with the presidential election coming up the phone calls and TV ads are about to begin. Who can handle the phone ringing in the middle of dinner to find out who you will be voting for, or the long slander ads that they play on the commercials. We believe that people want to know what they are going to do for us, our country and future generations, not who you slept with or what you did in college. People make mistakes, that’s how we learn, it is just weather they learn from them or not.

Have something to say about the upcoming long year of campaigning say it here at Boiled Over.

Chad commutes at least 180 miles daily the cost of our monthly gas is as much as our house payment and his last raise was less than fifty cents an hour. How will everyone survive, beside the big business and lets not forget our wonderful president who owns a lot of stock in the oil companies.
