ADHD – Your Childs Life May Be in Danger

The ADHD medication Ritalin has claimed another young victim, Anthony Cole, 15. Our hearts go out to his family and friends in this difficult time.

This trend of young children being depressed must be stopped. The pharmaceutical companies have issued warnings that these medications can cause suicidal thoughts. HOW CAN IT STILL BE ON THE MARKET?!

FDA Advisories. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued:

An advisory on Strattera. It suggests parents and other caregivers closely watch for warning signs of suicide in children and teens taking this medicine.

An advisory on antidepressants to closely monitor adults, teens, and children taking this medicine for warning signs of suicide.

The FDA does not recommend that people stop using these medicines, but to watch for warning signs of suicide in those using them.

The number of children that are taking ADHD medications have increased dramatically in the past 15 years. In a previous post I wrote about the possible link to these medications and Adolescent Violence.

“The number of adolescents on mood altering medications is also at a staggering level, maybe the two are linked. Four years ago the doctors were prescribing anti depressant medications to children as young as 7 years old, now they say it should be used with caution in younger people. Why? Because one of the side effects is suicidal thoughts and another is violent mood swings! It gets even worse when the doctors are prescribing all these wonderful new drugs for ADHD and come to find out they also can cause depression and suicidal thoughts.”

Reading this story about Anthony Cole breaks our heart and fills us with anger. We know what it is like to lose a child. Our bad experiences with ADHD medications make that anger boil. Our son just turned 16, he has ADHD. He was on medication from age 7 until he was about 12 years old. We were concerned that he was always zombie like, he never ate, he never slept, and he was not growing at a normal rate. He was very depressed, cried a lot and he was a loner. We worked with the doctors in changing the brand and dosages to try and help this behavior. Nothing worked. The final straw came when the doctor promised us this “new” type of medication Strattera was not a stimulant and would eliminate all the side effects. Our son just got worse he was so skinny and was not sleeping at all, he started being sneaky and not taking his medication. After sitting him down and talking with him we decided to take him off the medication, although the doctor did not agree he said it was ultimately our decision. It took a lot of patience and still does, we try different things, lots of hands on work. He is very bright, but it is hard to get him to do the homework. We were willing to trade the good grades and calm behavior for an energetic young man that has grown to 6’0 tall and 215 lbs. He now eats, sleeps, enjoys any project and is obviously growing at an enormous rate.

These medications may help some children without the deadly side effects, but it is really worth the risk of your child’s life?

We are avid readers of the news and frequently read articles that just make your blood boil. So we decided we would start a Furious Friday series…..
boiled over
On Friday we will spotlight some of the most ridiculous, frustrating and senseless news stories we found throughout the week.

Colorado Woman Faces $1,000 Fine for Dyeing Poodle Pink to Raise Awareness for Breast Cancer

This article topped them all…In Boulder Colorado it is illegal to dye any animal, their reason: to discourage families from dying chicks and rabbits at Easter!

Joy Douglas who is the owner of a hair salon dyed her poodle pink for Breast Cancer Awareness, using organic beet juice so that Cici her poodle was not harmed. She now faces a $1,000 fine.

We expect the City of Boulder will do the right thing and donate Joy’s $1,000 fine to Breast Cancer Research.

Minn. Lawmaker Proposes Campaign on Fragrance-Free Schools

St. Paul, MN – Rep. Karen Clark has proposed banning fragrances in Minneapolis schools. She states that students, mainly male, use too much body spray and it is aggravating the asthma in other students.

We understand the issue this could bring into a school, but educating these students in the effects that “too much” body spray could physically harm other students might be a better approach than making an actual law. Why would you make a law that governs fragrance?

A nursing service manager for the district’s asthma program, Mary Heiman states.

“One in eight Minneapolis students has asthma, and school nurses have treated students for wheezing and headaches brought on by the fragrances wafting from classmates”

Sounds like Minneapolis needs to find out why one in eight kids has asthma to begin with, that would be a better solution for this problem.

Woman sues casino that didn’t cut her off

Most ridiculous woman on earth….where is her self control?

Arelia Margarita Taveras of Atlantic City, NJ says that the casino is responsible for her losing over a million dollars. It is their fault because they did not notice she had a problem. This lady was an actual lawyer.

Our thought after the first ten grand you should have thought twice, after the second run far, far away, after the third call gamblers anonymous the number is posted all over the casinos.

Finally take some responsibility for your bad decisions.

Unenjoyment, OH Wait Unemployment

Welcome to M ichigan’s A utomated R esponse V oice I nteractive N etwork, you can call me MARVIN……

We will be hearing that every two weeks from now until ……WHO KNOWS! For the last two years Chad has been able to avoid that dreaded phone call to Marvin on Wednesday mornings to collect his unemployment check, but this year he was not able to weather the storm. This time of year is always the hardest for the Construction Trades in Michigan. The layoffs start coming and you just hope that the company you work for has enough to keep you going until the summer boom hits.
michigan unemployment
It is almost embarrassing to live in a state where day after day hordes of people are losing their jobs. Our Governor has no words of relief for her Michigan residents. In fact by moving up the primary election, she pretty much screwed us all. The only extra attention that Michigan is receiving is whether or not “our” votes will be counted…..Well at this point WHO CARES!!!! Michigan residents need some serious help here, help with our economy for our struggling families. The people of Michigan would vote for Joe Blow right now if he would help us get back on our feet.

Chad & I are the lucky ones, because he has been able to avoid Marvin up until now. We know that Chad will be back to work even if it takes a couple months, he still has a job. (Thanks to IronWorkers Local 25!) Other families around our state are not as lucky, their jobs are actually gone for good. People that have made it their life to work hard in our factories, are being set aside like last years garbage, forced into “other” areas of employment. With one of the highest unemployment rates in the country and Detroit holding the highest number of foreclosures, things look bleaker for Michigan residents everyday.

Meanwhile we will try to survive on a MARVIN check for now which is only a ¼ of Chad’s regular pay. The short term future reads: eat a lot of Ramen Noodles, and pray the kids don’t have any unexpected expenses….like getting sick.

Kids Donate Money, Mother Ends Up in Jail

Imagine this scenario, you pull up in front of the post office to drop a letter in that big blue box outside. The temperature outside is freezing and your two year old is fast asleep in her car seat. If you were just stepping a way for a minute, the car locked and still in your site would you leave your child sleeping in the car?
Illinois mom
If you lived in Chicago you would be arrested for Child Endangerment. That is what happened to a mother named Treffly Coyne, only her scenario is slightly different. Treffly a wife and mother of three girls stopped by Wal-Mart to donate coins the two older girls had collected from their dad’s office for The Salvation Army Kettle. When they arrived at the store it was sleeting, Treffly parked her car in the loading zone behind someone loading a Christmas Tree. She proceeded to turn on the emergency flashers, lock the car, turn on the alarm and walk less than 10 yards away to the Kettle with the older girls. They took a couple quick pictures and when Mrs. Coyne turned around there was a community service officer next to her car.

Mrs. Coyne states that this “officer” was on a tirade. She tried to explain that she never entered the store, but the police were called. Treffly called her husband who advised her not to say anything else. Which I would agree was probably best for this family, they needed a lawyer. By the time her husband arrived she was in handcuffs in the back of the patrol car.

Treffly Coyne is now charged with Child Endangerment and Obstructing a Peace Officer, even though the child welfare service found no credible evidence of neglect or abuse. If convicted she faces up to 1 year in jail and a $2,500 fine.

This is so Ridiculous!

These kids were donating money for a good cause and they end up seeing their mother taken away in handcuffs sitting in the back of a police car. This is a gross negligence of the misuse of authority.

I could understand if this woman left her child in the car and went INTO the store or left the car running and out of sight.

Michelle Forbes, Treffly’s attorney sums it up with this Boiled Over

“As long as the car is not out of her sight, then the child is not unattended,”

The State of Illinois should step up and save their taxpayers some money by putting a stop to the prosecution of a good mother. They are putting undo stress on a decent American Family!

Is Obama's Change an Empty Message?

Posted by: Fri, Mar 7, 2008

Change, Change, Change, we all need it, but someone is promoting it without a plan or so it seems. Yes, I am speaking of Mr. Barack Hussein Obama. Oh wait I wasn’t being politically correct so let me rephrase myself Mr. Barack Obama is spouting about “Change”, “Change We Can Believe In.”

Please tell us, how you are going to change things in this country? I have been eagerly listening to all of the presidential candidates and I have not heard how Mr. Obama plans to “Change” our country. He talks a lot of great stuff, uniting the country, bringing us as one again….. Last time I checked the president needed the approval of the Congress and the House to invoke any “Change”. He has not shown many instances where he has gone against the grain and fought for something that he believed in. When looking for information on his bipartition efforts they were far and few between, “Thin” as many have called them.
Barack Obama
How can this one man be convincing so many ‘young” voters that he will be able to become Commander and Chief and “Change” America. Naivety! We Americans that have been around the block know that change is only as good as the people that want to change it. If you are looking for someone to work across party lines, John McCain or Hillary Clinton are much better qualified.

I admire Mr. Obama’s message and wish that it was that easy, but can we really just take his word for it, he is a politician?! Mr. Obama did work on an Illinois version of the earned-income tax credit, but he also acquired a certain reputation for skipping tough votes. For example there was a key gun-control vote that he missed in December 1999. Why? He was in Hawaii on vacation.
I feel that the main stream media has been far too lenient with Mr. Obama, while they continue to smear the other “two” candidates it is obvious that all they do is promote Obama’s “Change” with empty promises.

What are you going to “Change” and how are you going to invoke that “Change” Mr. Obama?

Answer a few real questions from real Americans, not those drones you have believing that you alone can change this country. Anyone that has taken a Government class and passed knows it can not be done alone.

Fox News Jim Angle on Obama bipartisan votes

We do not endorse any candidate for president at this time, we enjoy picking on all of them, because they are politicians.
